As a diversified business and a listed company, Flughafen Zürich AG operates Switzerland’s most important transport and meeting hub – Zurich Airport. Flughafen Zürich AG has around 1,700 employees across four business areas. The company focuses on its core activities: national and international airport operator, operation of the commercial centres in the landside and airside areas, as well as management and further development of real estate at the Zurich location.

As its fourth strategic pillar, Flughafen Zurich AG, manages through its International subsidiary, Zurich Airport International AG (ZAIA) airport concessions in Latin America and Asia. The current portfolio under management consists of eight (8) airports in Latin America and the newly won greenfield project in Delhi Noida.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited is a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International which has been incorporated to develop the greenfield Noida International Airport in Jewar. The company will be responsible for implementing the Public-Private Partnership project together with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi Okhla Industrial Development Authority and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority.

Under a 40-year concession, Zurich Airport International will build and manage the upcoming airport in 1334 Hectares in Jewar, Gautam Budh Nagar, a district of Uttar Pradesh. The new airport will be located around 70 kilometers south of Delhi and will be fundamental to accommodate the expected flight traffic growth rates in the National Capital Region.

Noida International Airport Ltd. (NIAL) will be the implementing agency on behalf of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The airport is to be developed through a Public Private Partnership model. 

The infrastructure to be constructed in the first phase by 2024, will be able to accommodate around 12 million passengers per year. Besides the necessary capital investments in the infrastructure, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited shall pay a fixed passenger fee to the state-owned authority starting on the sixth anniversary of commissioning of the new airport. Zurich Airport International currently holds 100% of the project.


Key Milestones

2020

October 2020 – The Government of Uttar Pradesh signed the concession agreement with Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), to commence the development of the Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar.

2019

December 2019 – In the presence of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, conditional letter of award to develop and operate the greenfield Noida International Airport in Jewar was handed over to CEO of Zurich Airport International Asia Daniel Bircher by UP Chief Secretary RK Tiwari.

May 2020 – The Zurich Airport International AG got the security clearance from the Union ministry of home affairs to develop the Noida International Greenfield Airport at Jewar in Greater Noida. Zurich International and special purpose vehicle Yamuna International Airport Private Limited – had applied for security clearance on January 30 this year.

November 2019 – Zurich Airport International AG, a 100% subsidiary of Flughafen Zurich AG, announced as the preferred bidder for a 40-year concession to design, develop and operate the greenfield Noida International Airport in Jewar, enabling the airport to accommodate around 12 million passengers p/a.
